nsw event recap - end of year celebration

NSW’s End of Year Celebration was a sparkling affair, with almost 500 guests embracing the theme of Reach for the Stars. Over lunch we recognised the achievements of Women in Super throughout 2017 including the launch of the Make Super Fair campaign, the recipients of the AGSM scholarships, and raising $2.8m for breast cancer through the Mother’s Day Classic.

The keynote address was delivered by Holly Ransom - an accomplished and inspiring speaker, CEO of Emergent Solutions and presenter of the ‘Coffee Pods with Holly’ podcast.

Holly presented some compelling statistics on the growth and spending power of the millennials, and demonstrated the need to innovate in order to connect with the digital generation. She urged us to use gamification and other digital tools as an opportunity to transform the user experience in all aspects of corporate life, including superannuation.

With some interesting examples (such as getraised.com and the Israeli fintech, Pepper), she highlighted a number of ways that we can look at problems differently, including:

  • Transform trust: recognising that the people who interact with us are our best advocates
  • Challenge jargon: create accessible communications
  • Reward smart failure and role model risk: recognise the roles on the ‘Innovation Killer Organisation Chart’
  • Push the line of resistance to the courage zone: move out of your comfort zone
  • Invite diversity to coffee: a hallmark of great leaders is the diversity of the five people they spend the most time around.

We capped off the afternoon with a round of fantastic raffle prizes with all $8,000 of proceeds being donated to the Sydney Women’s Fund. Thank you to our industry partners who donated the raffle prizes.
