The Power of First Impressions
Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Remembered.
First impressions are formed quickly – often before we have had the opportunity to demonstrate the full extent of our knowledge, experience or capability.
In professional environments, people respond not only to what we say, but to a combination of vocal, visual and behavioural cues that can influence perceptions of confidence, credibility, approachability and authority.
The Power of First Impressions is a highly practical 90-minute Masterclass designed to help participants become more intentional about the way they are seen and heard in those important early moments.
Bringing together expertise in vocal communication, professional presentation, colour psychology and body language, the session will explore the many small signals that contribute to an overall impression – from vocal tone, pitch, pace and emphasis, to posture, eye contact, gesture, colour and physical presentation.
Participants will consider the impression they want to create and identify where their current communication and presentation habits may support – or unintentionally work against – that intention.
Through practical exercises and guided reflection, participants will experiment with simple adjustments to their vocal and visual presence and explore how these can change the way they are perceived.
The session will provide practical strategies that can be applied immediately in meetings, networking situations, presentations and conversations with colleagues, clients and senior stakeholders.
Ultimately, this Masterclass is about creating greater alignment between how you want to be perceived and what other people actually see and hear – enabling you to approach important professional interactions with greater awareness, choice and confidence.
What will you learn?
- By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Understand how first impressions are formed and recognise the combination of vocal, visual and behavioural cues people use when making rapid judgements about confidence, credibility, approachability and professional presence.
- Recognise the role of voice in shaping perception, including tone, pitch, pace, pitch contours, emphasis and pauses.
- Develop greater awareness of their own vocal identity and first-impression habits.
- Use body language more intentionally, including posture, eye contact, facial expression, gesture and physical presence.
- Understand how professional presentation and colour contribute to first impressions, including the principles of colour psychology.
- Create greater consistency between vocal and visual communication.
- Apply practical techniques immediately, with specific vocal, visual and behavioural adjustments they can use to deliberately shape how they are seen, heard and remembered.
