A proud Women in Super member since 2001, her first connection to the community came through the Mother’s Day Classic. What started as a meaningful event quickly became a long-standing tradition. For her, the Classic represents more than just a walk or run—it’s a powerful show of support for breast and ovarian cancer research and a source of inspiration as communities come together in pink, united by purpose. That same sense of unity and support is what she values most about the WIS network.
With more than 25 years in the financial services industry, Jessica Empson has built a career grounded in strong relationships, strategic vision, and an unwavering commitment to meaningful impact. Now as Strategic Partnership Lead at legalsuper, she’s using that experience to drive employer acquisition, foster industry relationships, and champion member engagement—particularly for women, who make up more than 70% of legalsuper’s member base.
Her journey began with a passion for business development, product distribution, and service strategy. Over the years, she has held senior roles at some of Australia’s most respected financial institutions, including Rest, AustralianSuper, Mercer, Perpetual Trustees, and BT Financial Group. Each position honed her leadership capabilities and deepened her understanding of stakeholder management, ultimately preparing her for her current role at legalsuper, where she is leading with impact and purpose.
Throughout her career, she has drawn inspiration from many influential women—especially those who have broken new ground in financial services. She is particularly grateful to work alongside female leaders within legalsuper’s Executive team, including Kaye Wheatley-Brown, Jennifer Abraham, and Louise Eyres, whose leadership continues to shape and inspire her own.
Jessica credits much of her success to early career advice from a mentor: build strong relationships and stay open to change. A growth mindset, paired with a commitment to professionalism and empathy, has allowed her to navigate challenges from multiple market shifts to internal restructures. She believes that treating people with respect—regardless of their role—is not just good business, it’s essential for sustainable success.
While challenges have inevitably come her way, particularly in fast-paced, competitive environments, she meets them with adaptability, purpose, and a strong support system. For her, stepping back to reassess, leaning on trusted peers, and communicating clearly have been key tools for overcoming adversity.
Right now, she’s excited about the continued opportunity to innovate within superannuation and deepen employer partnerships. Working with members in the legal sector—people driven by integrity and intellectual discipline—keeps her motivated to deliver the same excellence in superannuation management.
To new WIS members, her advice is simple: get involved, stay curious, and use the network. Whether it’s reaching out on LinkedIn or showing up to events, she believes the strength of Women in Super lies in its community. And as someone who leads with both heart and a strategic lens, she’s committed to paying it forward and uplifting others in their career journeys – so if you’re thinking of connecting with her, this is your sign to send a connection request.
