Intersectionality at Work with Dr Niki Vincent

Helen Hewett was a founding member of Women in Super, a titan in the superannuation industry, and someone who fought for equality and social justice all her life. To pay tribute to Helen's significant contribution to the superannuation industry, to mental health and to women, the annual Helen Hewett Oration spotlights current relevant researchers and their projects.

As a companion piece to the 2021 Baseline Report, the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector released the Intersectionality at Work Report in order to give the Commission time and space to analyse and interpret data specifically about people experiencing intersecting forms of disadvantage and discrimination, with care and attention.

Intersectionality is a term that refers to how systems of power – such as gender, race, and class – ‘intersect’ to shape experiences of the social world, the importance of which has significantly grown in public awareness over the last 25 years.

Dr Niki Vincent, Victoria’s first Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner will discuss the findings of this report, which analysed intersectional workforce and survey data, applying the learnings from the public sector to what we can do within the superannuation industry.

If you are in Melbourne, join us for drinks and canapes. For everyone else, we are also offering an online version.

This event is open to all (all genders, members and non-members).
