WIS NSW launches Ideas on Tap: after-hours conversations with big thinkers in a relaxed, pub-style setting.

Each Ideas on Tap event will feature candid insights from Australia’s most compelling female leaders, thinkers, and changemakers. We’ll put the big questions on the table and keep the vibe casual. Expect sharp ideas, great networking and plenty to talk about on the way home.

Kick off our new series as Richard Fidler, host of ABC’s Conversations, sits down with Dr Meredith Burgmann: academic and activist-turned-parliamentarian, author, and founder of the Ernie Awards for sexist remarks — on trailblazing under fire.

Dr Meredith Burgmann was an Academic for twenty years and later a Labor MP and President of the NSW Legislative Council.
Starting off as Head girl at a nice North Shore private school, she was radicalised by anti-Vietnam activity at Sydney Uni in the sixties. She then led the 'Stop the Tours' Campaign against all-white South African sporting teams, famously receiving a two months jail sentence for stopping the game at the SCG. 
She has been active in women's rights and Equal Pay campaigns and was President of the Academics Union. After retiring from Parliament she was elected President of the Australian Council for International Development - the peak body for Aid and Development agencies in Australia. She has written four books on misogyny, ASIO, The Green Bans and Radicals.
She is a foundation member and Ambassador for the Sydney Swans.

Richard Fidler is the presenter of Conversations on ABC Radio, a long form, in-depth interview program, which attracts a large listening audience around the nation, and is one the most popular podcasts in Australia.

He’s also the author of several books that blend history with travel memoir and mythology, including Ghost Empire, The Golden Maze and The Book of Roads & Kingdoms.
